May Sketch Challenge - Love Life layout Rachel Lowe:

Hello STB friends.

Today I am here to share how I went about creating my layout using the fab sketch by Laura Whitaker.

I do not usually scrap more than one photo on a layout so I relished the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone. I have used three 3x3 inch photos (pretty handy having three boys for this sketch!).

I have essentially kept true to the sketch.

I have used the new collection by Simple Stories, Life in Colour. I kept my colour choice masculine.

When your layout is not so technique based (i.e. mixed media) then you need to ensure you add texture and interest in other ways.

I have sewn heavily on this layout to add texture. I have sewn in a 'messy' fashion which I think suites this boy layout.

I have then focused on embellishment clustering so your eye is drawn to areas of your layout.

I have created my title 'love life' by using the heart die cut and word flair. I often use embellishments to create a title as opposed to traditional word titles.

If my layout does not have journalling on it, I at least ensure I have the year the photos were taken and then write something meaningful on the back of the layout.

I hand punched some stars and glittered them the same hue of the wood grain base paper again to add texture.

I am a big fan of foam tape to create 3D elements on the page and have foam taped several embellishments.

Here are some close up photos:

Not all layouts need to be technique based but with colour and pattern choice and placement of embellishments can ensure your layout still has maximum visual impact.

Thank you for joining me today and I can't wait to see all your layouts of this sketch.

Absolutely love this masculine design Rachel. The wooden board background also adds to the wonderful vintage feel.
